The Standard Wirehaired Dachshunds is generally a happy dog. They do need
to be socialized with other breeds, as do all dog breeds. We highly suggest puppy
kindergarten classes or socialization classes. These classes are good for both
the puppy and the owner.
The breed needs care to control their weight. All varieties of Dachshunds
like to eat and can become overweight. Just like in humans excess weight can
cause health problems. Regular exercise is important. A good walk daily does
wonders for both owner and the dog.
Dachshunds can make excellent apartment companions with a bit of proper training.
They have a loud bark for their size. As an owner of the Dachshund you should
be consistent and patient, one who desires a small active and personable companion.
Curious and mischievous, they are very clever and may attempt to train the owner
rather then the owner train them.
